The Struggle is Real

Hi Blog.

It has been a really challenging few days for me health-wise. On Friday, I started feeling dizzy and tingly and lightheaded at work. By the time evening rolled around, I was bone tired and body achey and stomach achey as if I had the flu.

Of course, what do you do when you’re on the couch sick but check Google. Google told me that the symptoms that I was feeling could be due to gluten withdrawal and some people experience them when they start a gluten free diet. Imagine that! I had never heard of such a thing.

I felt really bad through the entire weekend to the point of wanting to just give up and eat a big old bagel already, but I am persevering and trying to think positively. This is a small price to pay in the long run if it does in fact help my issues. My current strategy is to lay off the “gluten free” flours and such (I was kinda excited to try all of them!) and just stick to eating clean and healthy and bland. Think meat, rice, broth, veggies and fruit.

But enough talk… pictures!

I am so thankful for the river. Lunchtime walks help keep me sane.

Gluten free banana bread. It was yummy! Will save this recipe for later when I can reintroduce some flours.

Speaking of Charlie, that blur in his mouth is a chipmunk that he caught and brought inside. A lively chase ensued before we were able to get the chipmunk to run back outside.

I felt reaaaaaaally bad yesterday and anxious and panicky about things, so I went and sat under the big pine tree in our back yard. It’s kind of a magical place. Deep breaths. This too shall pass.

  1. So sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. Don’t let it drag on too long before seeing a doc, if it keeps up. I didn’t know you could feel so awful trying to get healthy. I do hope you get it figured out. I had to run some errands today and was close to K-mart so I ran in and picked up a few things and looked for a veggie spiraler. They had one, but it looked a little complicated with 3 different blades for doing other things and the more I read the less I wanted it…so I put it back on the shelf. I am hoping to find a much simpler one that does just the spiraling. I will check Target and Walmart out when I am near one. Feel better!

  2. wow, your pine is amazing. one of my few girlfriends here always says “this too shall pass” and it totally helps. it’s a weird astrological time, i heard there will be tough times till October. i am currently very addicted to chocolate. i’m probably missing some vitamin in my diet, but work is pretty intense so i just give in to the cravings. sending flourless hugs!

    My spiraler is very simple and one piece. Well, two if you count the little holder that I don’t use. I think I’ve seen them at CVS, Bed Bath & Beyond and places like that too. It’s funny you see it everywhere until you actually are looking for one.

    How are you feeling now? In another lifetime I ran a low carb/ diabetic retail food shop and I do indeed know the 3 day gluten withdrawal flu. Are you better yet? still off the gluten? I always feel better when I eat less gluten and sugar, but I do have such a sweet tooth……..

  9. Hi! That’s so cool that you ran a low carb shop!!! Yes, I am still off gluten and have good and bad days. It’s lasting longer than 3 days!!!! 😩 is this normal??

    Your potassium might be low – try eating a banana. I usually felt pretty cruddy for about a week and then like magic, the sun would come out and I’d feel great. – If you do still really feel terrible – I’d go in for some bloodwork. Try to up your carbs in other areas – low blood sugar can make you feel pretty terrible. Disclaimer: I’m not a dr – I don’t even pretend to be one on TV.
