A Quiz

Why am I happy today?

A. I have a secret space heater hidden under my desk to keep my toes warm and toasty.
B. Tom made me a delicious vanilla soy latte to enjoy on my commute.
C. My sweater has HUGE pockets (perfect for stashing my work badge, phone, and maybe a piece (or two) of emergency chocolate).
D. I have the BEST family on Earth.

Answer: Mostly D, but really all of the above.

Happy Thursday before a 3-day weekend!

Friday!

Things that make me smile today:

An overnight dusting of snow. Just enough to look pretty but not enough to make life difficult.

Doodling.

No meetings on the calendar.

My ever growing collection of F mugs.

Dance class with Tom. (This one requires explanation.) We were feeling burnt out lately between work, and chores, and kid stuff, so decided to do an activity just for us. We signed up for ballroom dance classes! Last Monday was our first class… the basic “slow dance.” We giggled the entire time!

Eating blood oranges while learning fractions.

Hellooooooo Friday!!!

Perspective

Hi Blog. Do you remember me?

I’ve not only lost my stitching mojo, I’ve lost my mojo for most other things as well… like cooking, doing holiday-ish activities, and even just getting up in the morning. I think this is an internal revolt against having too much to do. Best to just do nothing. It makes perfect sense, right?

The good news, though, is that as of Friday, I will be off from work for the rest of the year! YAY! I am REAAAAALLY hoping that having some slow time at home will help me to feel reinvigorated. Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, I am thankful for:

Him (tattoo peaking out from under shirt sleeve… hubba hubba)

Them (This is what I get when I say “let me take a picture of you.”)

Him (He likes to steal our blankets.)

Him (Why is this kid in my seat?)

And Him (I can’t believe that it’s been exactly one year since he came to live with us.)

I am so blessed.

5/15/15!

Oh… heeeeey … Friday, glad you’re finally back!

This week started off really bad, then got better, then got good! So GOOD! And now it’s Friday, which makes it GREAT!

This weekend, we have a scout camping trip. I am not staying for the overnight portion = BONUS!

Today I am thankful for:

A successful violin concert

A reasonably good night’s sleep

A too-short dress that I turned into a shirt! HA!

Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography (sooooo interesting!)

Red Sperry Topsiders

Our strawberries are coming back!

Drowning

Hi Blog!

Long time no see. I have been drowning a bit around here lately. There is too much to do and too little time. You all know that feeling, right? Some days I feel so overwhelmed that it seems I can hardly manage. I realize the weeks will pass, and everything that really needs to be done will get done, but BOY is it ever exhausting and terrifying and anxiety ridden and lonely feeling when it is looming right in front of you.

Today I am thankful for:

A very loving, supportive, & patient partner.

This little blog which has turned into a amazing place to let off some steam.

Finally getting my printer to work.

The smell of lemongrass oil.

The azaleas that are just starting to bloom outside our front window.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

In search of…

Hi Blog!

The other night we sat down to watch TV and I felt NAKED without a cross stitch project to work on. Seriously, I didn’t know what to do with my hands. I organized my floss boxes a little, but they were already organized. So then I pulled out this old embroidery that I had abandoned.

Screen Shot 2015-03-13 at 10.57.10 AM

I quickly remembered why it was abandoned. The fabric was too thin and see-through and french knots are the devil. Back into the reject pile for you!

I’m on the search for a new project but can’t quite commit to anything yet. These things take up months and months of my life so I want to LOVE it! There are so many choices!

In the meantime, I’m going to stitch up some little projects for the boys.

Screen Shot 2015-03-13 at 10.58.41 AM

If you don’t live with an elementary aged kid, you might not recognize that this is Pikachu! He is super fast and surprisingly fun to stitch. The colors come next. Any suggestions on what I should do with him? Maybe turn him into a pouch or something?

Today I am thankful for:

FRIDAY!

My friends

New makeup

And especially the health of my family!

Have a great weekend!

2 Hours

Today we had a 2 hour school delay due to icy conditions. I get stressed out when we have delays because of the whole “get to my job on time” thing, but do enjoy those extra 2 hours.

We can pack a lot into 2 hours. This morning, we made and ate banana muffins, filled out Valentine’s cards for the class (Biggest refused to use the ones that said “Be Mine”… too committal?), took a shower and slathered myself with coconut oil (new obsession), played a little in the driveway (boys, not me), made lunches, put in a load of laundry, and daydreamed about having 2 extra hours EVERY day! Wouldn’t that be something?

Today I’m thankful for:

An extra 2 hours (How many times can I say 2 hours in this post?)

Pants in my closet that were already ironed

My old fashioned paper calendar (I’m never giving it up!!!)

Super sharp pencils with fresh erasers

Vanilla ice cream + gluten free pretzels (They have to be gluten free, not because we are allergic to gluten, but because they are crunchier- trust me!)

Progress!

An apple a day.

Look at me on a blog posting roll!

Happy Wednesday! Last night we ate grilled salmon, rice, and sautéed “power greens”. That’s really what they were called. I feel full of power today (not). In fact, it was extra hard to crawl out of bed because bed was extra cozy and warm.

I am still trying hard to appreciate the little things like:
a nice boss,
when you’re driving and a really great song comes on the radio,
sitting on your honey’s lap and having the kids say “Look at that happy couple!”,
some alone time with your oldest son while everyone else is at taekwondo,
going through that same son’s baby albums to help him pick out photos for his timeline project,
a secret space heater under my desk at work.

Tonight we have leftovers and Scouts, then tomorrow we have OFF! Hip Hip Hooray!

This weekend, I vow to hang all of my cross stitched projects that came back from the framers, put out some Fall decorations (the only time no one questions witchy decor), and maybe go apple picking. Is it too early for apple picking? Is it ever too early for apple picking?

Here’s a photo from the last time we went apple picking. Holy heck… my hair was long!

A Mother’s Day Walk.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of my friends!

Here is a photo of me and my Mama from back in the day. Isn’t she pretty?

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.40.55 PM

I had a great weekend. On Friday, Tom and I went to see John Edward, the Psychic!

Here is a photo of us before the show started. I was unable to contain my excitement because we were sitting in the FRONT row. I made us go two hours early to insure good seats because I’m a nerd like that.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.40.16 PM

It turned out that we didn’t really need to sit in the front row, because he read for people all over the room, not just the front. He was AMAZING, by the way.

Mother’s Day was really special this year.  All I wanted to do was go for a hike with my guys and they accommodated.

One great thing about Philadelphia is our beautiful parks. Sigh… Hard to believe that this is in the city.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.30.51 PM

It seems like one of the most important things about hiking is finding the perfect walking stick. You don’t want one too heavy, or flimsy, or crooked, or wobbly. Luckily, we found some that were just right.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.35.31 PM

We had quite an adventure. We looked for arrowheads and crossed a creek and collected interesting rocks. Can you guess who was the lucky person with the backpack who ended up carrying all of these rocks? Answer: Me.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.29.51 PM

Biggest was certain that this tree was carved long ago with Native American symbols. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that it was graffiti.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.33.08 PM

I would follow these three anywhere.

I like being their Mom.

We were pretty tired by the time we finally found the big Indian statue.

But it was worth it.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.36.24 PM

Love my bunch.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.32.27 PM

After our hike, we visited Tom’s Mom and then lazed around the house.

By the time evening came, I was pretty pooped. I spread out a blanket under the huge pine trees in our back yard and made a cozy little nest.

Me and my buddy, Coal, did some reading.

Screen Shot 2014-05-12 at 2.42.12 PM

These two joined us.

I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

The End.
