Discovering me … one stitch at a time

A Day Off

Hi Blog!

The boys had off from school yesterday so I decided to take the day off from work too. It is rare that we have a completely unscheduled day, so we went with it!

We took a hike in the late morning and saw tadpoles & frogs, a few fish, a tiny turtle, 2 snakes, and 2 mini goats. There were a lot of squirrels, but they didn’t count, as they are “usual” wildlife. I guess vs. “unusual.”

It was supposed to rain in the late afternoon, so we went to see A Wrinkle in Time at the spiffy new theater near us. I was impressed by the luxurious seating, more so than by the movie itself. I liked the message, but eh… the rest of it wasn’t amazing. That is my official review.

I felt tricked when we left the theater though because it still had not rained, and we had spent a sunny afternoon inside for nothing! The torrential storms did eventually arrive in the evening. We slept with the windows cracked a teensy, just enough to hear the raindrops and rumbly sky. It was very cozy!

I didn’t take a picture of the sky, but Stephanie did because she’s artistic like that.

Today is back to regular life so bye for now! Happy Wednesday!

Random thoughts on a rainy day

Hi Blog. How I’ve missed you!

It’s been so busy around here but as I write this, I can’t even remember why. It’s funny how when you’re in the midst of things, they are such a top priority, but just a week later you can’t even remember what they were.

Some random thoughts:

A headstand!

Three things that make me swooooon: Tom, Charlie, & a wall of cross stitch.

“I am pissed off at you for taking my picture while I’m enjoying this box.”

I set up a little office for myself in the corner of the guest room. That’s all I get, a little corner, but I love it.

Animals sleeping in sun patches = so cute!!!

This little kitten wandered into Tom’s office a few weeks ago and wouldn’t leave. I was (secretly) certain that she’d come home with him one day but they found a home for her! Yay but sighhhh…

I was a chaperone on a field trip this week. The boys were so adorable, but I’m still recovering. (How can a bunch of third graders run in so many different directions at once?)

No stitching whatsoever. Stitch-a-long Christmas 2015 is looking dire, but I guess that means I am really far ahead for Christmas 2016!

The Basics

Helloooo Friday!

Usually I want life to slow down, but this week I’m glad that it sped up! Wahooooo! It’s Friday!!!

Next week is a big launch-to-do-of sorts at work so stress is high and tempers are flaring. My response is to close my office door and hide behind a giant computer screen. It works for the most part except when people look in the little window next to the door and do the “can I come in” mime and then come in anyway. What is up with that?!

Tom is finally feeling better. Praise the gods! I hope I didn’t just jinx things by saying that.

Random fun fact: In his heyday, Tom was invited to try out for the Phillies(!!!). For various reasons, he didn’t end up with a glamorous career in professional sports. I am glad because 1. We never would have met, and 2. He wouldn’t be spending his evenings playing baseball in the backyard with these 2 rascals. And seriously, is there anything cuter than that?

This weekend promises to be filled with kid stuff (appointments, scouts, inaugural outdoors (poo) club meeting) but I’m hoping to find some time for Halloweening (apple picking, pumpkin patch, important costume discussions). A mother’s work is never done!

Last night, I lit not one, but TWO, vanilla candles and the house smelled so homey and bakey and yummy. I realize this is Pumpkin Spice and/or Cinnamon candle season, but sometimes you just have to go with the basics.

Enjoy your weekend!

Lordy- Goo.

Yesterday was my birthday. I turned Lordy-Goo, which is code for Forty-Two.

Between the nice people at work and my sweet gang at home, I had a very good day and felt very special.

Here are some bits from my day.

I received a lovely piece of art.

Littlest said that he figured out a new way to draw eyes. I like them. I think that they make me look quite glamorous for a 42 year old.

Tom left me a message on my new Buddha Board.

You draw on it with water and the message fades… you know, the whole Zen “nothing is permanent” thing. Since I took a picture of it, I guess it IS permanent though. Oops. I need to work on this Zen stuff.

I got some beautiful flowers.

Abraham Lincoln came to dinner!

We had Indian food (one of my favorites). Abe talked a lot about Minecraft (who knew?) and is excited for an upcoming field trip.

This is what the cake looked like after we had our way with it. There is no before shot for obvious reasons.

The boys got me stitchy gifts. How did they know?!

They were excited that the needles and scissors are “real gold.” And… girls rule!

It was a great day. Lordy-Goo is pretty good so far.
