Discovering me … one stitch at a time

Tag: love (Page 1 of 2)

Hi Blog.

Here we are already at the first Friday of the shiny New Year.

After the long break, I am happy to be settled back into our regular schedules. The Taurus in me sure does love some smoothly operating routines.

Last night was Biggest’s Winter Orchestra concert. I was BLOWN AWAY with how good they sounded. I am thankful that he loves violin because I really love listening to it.

After some consideration, I picked LOVE as my word for 2017.

This year, I would like to feel more love in my heart and act more lovingly towards myself and others. I would like love to be what drives my decisions and actions; rather than fear or anger or sense of lack or boredom or whatever. Clearly our world could use a lot more love these days.

I just noticed that I’ve used the word “LOVE” 9 times in this post! See? I’m already embracing it!

Happy Friday, Friends!

Ermahgerd! A blerg!

Hi Blog!

We had a great weekend but I barely took any photos, so does that mean that it never happened? You will have to use your imagination today.

This weekend, we:
made soap (Oatmeal Honey again. I’m a one trick pony.)

made yogurt (no pic, but it was good!)

went to the trampoline park (no pic, but the boys were sweaty!)

ate the best Vodka Rigatoni. Do you know how to determine if you’ve found your true love? I wanted to order the Vodka Rigatoni because it’s my favorite but Tom wanted to get it too. So I ordered the scallops instead, because we can’t both get the same thing (weird rule in my head). So then Tom told me that he didn’t really like the Vodka Rigatoni so we switched and I happily scarfed it down in record time, only to figure out later that he really like the VR better, but pretended he didn’t so that I could have it. Sniff. True love.

hunted for Pokemon (Biggest is really into making memes these days)

broke the paddle on my stand mixer. Waaaaaaah! Mixer, why have you forsaken me??!!!!

mugged for photos at Barnes & Noble

Happy Monday!

The Basics

Helloooo Friday!

Usually I want life to slow down, but this week I’m glad that it sped up! Wahooooo! It’s Friday!!!

Next week is a big launch-to-do-of sorts at work so stress is high and tempers are flaring. My response is to close my office door and hide behind a giant computer screen. It works for the most part except when people look in the little window next to the door and do the “can I come in” mime and then come in anyway. What is up with that?!

Tom is finally feeling better. Praise the gods! I hope I didn’t just jinx things by saying that.

Random fun fact: In his heyday, Tom was invited to try out for the Phillies(!!!). For various reasons, he didn’t end up with a glamorous career in professional sports. I am glad because 1. We never would have met, and 2. He wouldn’t be spending his evenings playing baseball in the backyard with these 2 rascals. And seriously, is there anything cuter than that?

This weekend promises to be filled with kid stuff (appointments, scouts, inaugural outdoors (poo) club meeting) but I’m hoping to find some time for Halloweening (apple picking, pumpkin patch, important costume discussions). A mother’s work is never done!

Last night, I lit not one, but TWO, vanilla candles and the house smelled so homey and bakey and yummy. I realize this is Pumpkin Spice and/or Cinnamon candle season, but sometimes you just have to go with the basics.

Enjoy your weekend!

And then there were three.

These stars are a dream to stitch. It takes me exactly two episodes of House of Cards to complete one star.  It’s a lovely way to spend an evening. Season 2- Wowza! Anyone else watching it? Let’s discuss because I’m obsessed.

I have been in such a funk this week, probably due to the unrelenting cold weather combined with frustrations at work. I try to separate my work and home life, but sometimes it is a challenge and things seep in from one to the other.

Sometimes at night, I get really anxious thinking about everything. I like to lie next to Tom in bed and he will talk to me, telling me things about the Universe and matter and math. I don’t like the math part, but his soft, gentle voice never fails to calm me and lull me into sleep. He probably gets offended because he thinks that I am bored by what he says, but really it’s just that finally finding that cozy feeling after a particularly hard day makes sleep impossible to resist. I am so thankful for home. And family. And love.

My Valentines Day Extravaganza

I had such a nice Valentines Day.

I got spoiled with flowers…

and homemade cards (those are the best kind).

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 11.33.59 AM

When the boys and I looked through old pictures recently, I realized that there were barely any of me. I asked Tom to try to take more of me even though I hate getting my picture taken. Here I am with my giant bouquet.

We spent Valentines night eating pizza with the boys and rehydrating the Water Kefir that arrived… I was so excited!

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 11.33.11 AM

This is what they looked like after we put them into water. I know they look gross, but assure you that they will eventually taste delicious!

We’ve named our kefir “Kefir Sutherland.” The first thing I do every morning is run downstairs to check on Kefir Sutherland. This morning, I forgot that I had moved him last night to a warmer location and panicked that he was missing.

The other creature in our house who likes warm locations is Sammy. He has a knack for locating sunny spots.

On Saturday, Tom and I left for a little getaway to the beach. I didn’t take ANY pictures, well, except for one of the Sourdough loaf that I made. Like Kefir Sutherland, our sourdough also has a name… SourJoe. I carried SourJoe the entire way to the beach in my lap. If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what is! This loaf had a good sour flavor and a crunchy crust, but was still too dense in the center… definitely some room for improvement.

We went to a Valentine Musical. It was really good. I am always amazed by people with musical talent, because I have none.

On Sunday, Tom installed a new thermostat at the beach that he can control from his phone from anywhere! How cool is that?! We might as well be the Jetsons!

While he worked on the thermostat, I laid on the sofa and watched 5 HOURS(!) of TV. Can you even imagine that?! I was a lazy slug. Then I only got up to GO SHOPPING! I might as well be a Kardashian!

I never get a chance to stroll the shops in town without boys hanging off of me and whining to leave, so it was nice to walk around on my own. I bought Biggest a dreamcatcher that he’s been wanting and I bought myself a big fluffy scarf because it was cold. I even tried on some swimsuits in anticipation of Spring Break in Florida, but that just ended up being depressing.

Hope that you all had fun with your sweethearts this weekend.

Don’t you just love Morticia & Gomez? It doesn’t get any better than that.

Hello! We are baaaaack!

Tom completed his 4th Ironman on Sunday. He worked really hard for this. I am so proud of him.

By some postal miracle, the shirts arrived just before we left for the airport so we were all sporting our shirts in support.

Arizona was beautiful and sunny and warm, but I’m glad to be home. I love my house and routines. We didn’t get back until after midnight. It was cold in the house and I was so unbelievably happy to crawl into my own bed and snuggle with my love.

Our weekend in pictures.

This weekend in iPhone photos.

Soccer was sooooo cold. You can’t tell from this photo, but I’m shivering on the sidelines. Being a soccer mom is hard work!

Biggest went to a birthday party at an indoor trampoline park. It was seriously amazing.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.11.30 AM

Littlest wanted to hang posters by his bed. I don’t know why but that seemed like such a big boy thing to do and made me slightly sad that he’s growing up.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.14.56 AM

Littlest also started a diary. This is his entry for Sunday.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.45.26 AM

He wanted me to wear this to said block party.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.21.31 AM

We compromised with this.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.22.16 AM

Littlest wore this. He was one of many ninjas.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.23.20 AM

Biggest was an extremely scary phantom who, in this photo, appears to be asking for money.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.24.29 AM

For the record, Tom did not wear a costume.

But Coal did!

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.27.39 AM

So did Sammy, but there was no photographic evidence.

But the biggest thing that happened this weekend was that someone very special had a birthday.

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.29.56 AM

Can you guess who?

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.32.47 AM

My Sweetie!

Screen shot 2013-10-28 at 9.37.33 AM

He is strong, smart, kind, loving, funny, and loyal. He is always there for us and is my rock when things get wobbly. He always has smiles and time for us no matter how tired or stressed he is. He makes our world a better place  x10,000,000,000.

I love him so much. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I think you are the sweetest.

Last night was a big improvement.

We ate delicious salmon burgers from the Farmer’s Market with sweet potatoes and a big salad. Among his many talents, Tom is an expert dressing maker. It is probably not so healthy, but it is really good and I like A LOT of it on my salad.

Biggest had a Scout meeting so we got some alone time with Littlest. We went to the frozen yogurt place where you weigh what you get by the ounce. I had a tummy ache and ate no frozen yogurt, but Tom and Littlest ate a whole POUND worth of it.

I am so glad that this week is over. It pretty much kicked my butt. This weekend means: soccer, a birthday party, karate, a Halloween block party, and a family dinner. It is all fun stuff, but MAN I am exhausted just thinking about it!

What fun things do you have planned?

I’m a lucky girl. Since my birthday is the first day of May and Mother’s Day follows soon after, we end up celebrating the entire period in between. We even coined the term “Fawnukkah” for this special time of year. My guys are the best and I always end up feeling very spoiled and loved.

Tom outdid himself this year. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I came home on Wednesday, but lo and behold, he had prepared a beautiful candlelit dinner! This was a total surprise considering that he NEVER cooks and is the type who will eat popcorn for dinner if I’m not home to make him something. Imagine my surprise to find that he had looked through my favorite cookbook, shopped, and snuck home early to cook an authentic Vietnamese 5 course meal!

It was delicious+++!!! You’ll have to trust me on that since there are no food pictures to show. I’ve always wondered, by the way, how bloggers manage to post gorgeous pictures of their meals. At our house, I have to physically hold back hungry boys and man from lunging at food the minute it hits the table. They would kill me if I made them wait while I took artful photos.

I went into this birthday feeling pretty depressed and sorry for myself (Poor me! I’m 41! Life is so hard!), but am emerging from it feeling extremely blessed and grateful. I am so thankful for my life. I’m not saying that just because people are doing all kinds of nice things for me this week, but because… really and truly… there is so much love and happiness all around me and I am SO THANKFUL.  Sometimes my stubborn brain needs a reminder. You know, 41 year olds can be a little slow.

Silly little things.

For a blog that’s supposed to be about cross stitching, I sure haven’t been writing much about stitching lately. My project has hit a slight snafu in that I have run out of thread. I am so close to the end and only need a teensy bit so it’s not worth ordering online. I just need to find some time to pay a visit to the crabby cross stitch lady.

I guess that stitching, like life, will encounter the occasional snafu. Do you like how I segued into the philosophical there? I have been having a case of the blahs lately. I told Tom that I had a bad day yesterday and when he asked me why, I couldn’t think of a good answer. I could only think of silly little things that were bothering me like: I felt fat, I was tired, someone annoyed me, the hem of my pants kept getting caught in the back of my shoe. Stupid stuff. With all of the rotten things going on lately, I feel guilty for even complaining.

So today I am going to try to combat the silly little annoying things by thinking of the silly little good things. Like…

winking holls

Okay… It kinda worked.
