Discovering me … one stitch at a time

This and That

Hi Blog!

Here we are winding down another week already. This was a busy one, with a lot of commuting back and forth to NYC. The best part: I skipped my evening event last night and got home early. The worst part: The train was sooooo bumpy and sooooo crowded, I couldn’t cross stitch at all!

We started off the week with SNOW! Can you even believe that crazy business?

Tom surprised me with new rugs for the basement to replace the ones that got flooded last year. Charlie approves!

We got passport photos taken for the boys! Fun Summer trip booked!

I’ve had the worst insomnia lately. Some nights I roam the house looking for a place to lull me to sleep. Good old Charlie follows me around. He has no trouble falling asleep no matter where we end up. Is it normal to be jealous of a cat?

David Beckham embroidering. Insert all the heart eyes…

And this cracked me up. Raise your hands if you can relate.

A Simple Home

Hi Blog!

Where did this week go? Last night we had crazy thunderstorms. Thunder is kinda cool, but it keeps me up, which is not cool. Insomnia = baking.

Stephanie and I went to an antique place last weekend. I got this.

At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but the sales ladies were staring me down as I was making my decision and it was only $14, which is something a bargain shopper like me could not resist. It’s growing on me now, but I feel like I am walking that fine line between decorating my house with “vintage character” and decorating my house “like a granny.”

I also made a second batch of deodorant bars. So far, they are working really well. The true test will be when Summer comes. They will have their job cut out for them.

The other night, during a different bout of insomnia (do I sense a theme?), I wrote down all of the things that we have been doing towards our goal of living more simply and naturally. It included fun stuff like making our own deodorant and soap and cleaning supplies and basic but useful stuff like recycling old tshirts into rags and using cloth napkins. I felt really proud once I realized how many of these things have become part of our daily routines.

Speaking of daily routines, Sammy has found a new favorite napping spot… the hamper. He seems to prefer it when it is filled with the smelliest boy socks.

And then there’s Charlie. This is his favorite place these days, sitting and watching the birds flutter by. I think he’s as excited about Spring returning as I am.

And as for me, I’ve been sketching…

And stitching. I finally tackled frogging and re-stitching the ghoulish lady.
Remember all that fuss over her skin?

So that about sums up the latest around here. What’s new in your world?

On apple muffins, cross stitching, and chain saw killers…

What do you do when you finally fall asleep at 4AM only to have your darling wake you up at 4:45 with his snoring? You get out of bed and make apple muffins.

The crumbly bits on top were a little dry and weird, but the muffin part was thumbs up. But then again, anything sugary and warm probably tastes good when you are operating on little sleep.

On a brighter note, I’m enjoying this stitch-a-long.

I got most of the red done for Days 1 and 2 and now need to add the green. These are some greens that are in my stash but they aren’t quite right. I can’t decide between bright & modern or traditional & dark. Thoughts?

And a few more photos from the weekend…

We had our Halloween block party.

My favorite part was the horse drawn wagon rides.

I was planning to enter the pie baking contest, but forgot to bake a pie. How do you forget to bake a pie? Then Tom volunteered to be a pie judge and they picked someone else. We really failed at the pie competition this year.

Coal was popular in his sweater.

You know you’re a boy mom when walking in on this doesn’t even phase you. He was trying to show me that his socks have skulls on them too. A+ for follow through on a theme.

Happy Tuesday!
