Stitch Therapy

Discovering me … one stitch at a time

Reflections.

Hello Stitchy Friends.

I just found out that there is going to be an 18th and 19th Century Needlework exhibit close by and I am beyond excited. Can you say “Needlework Nerd”? I’m scheming now about who I can talk into going with me.

Tom and I have not been sleeping well this week. Me- because of sniffling and coughing. Him- because of my sniffling and coughing. Not sleeping well SUCKS! It makes me cranky all day long. You can ask anyone at my office because it’s true.

I have been getting a lot done on my Modern Folk heart pillow though. I’m being slow and methodical and trying not to feel like I have to rush through it. That’s hard for me because I can be very results oriented. I have to constantly remind myself that cross stitching is as much about the process as it is about the result.

Yesterday I stopped at the library during lunch and picked up a book on the zen of everyday things. The author talks a lot about doing laundry which is probably one of my least zen activities, but I totally get what she means. I feel that way when I wash dishes by hand, or chop veggies, or bake bread, or stir broth, or cross stitch. I suppose you’ve got to find it wherever you can.

Hi.

  1. Your heart pillow looks gorgeous. By the way, when you had your other stitch art framed, did they glue the material to the back? That would make me nervous. Do they have to steam the work first, or is it similar to a drawing? Sucks you’re still sick. Germs seem to linger longer and longer. Hope you feel better soon. Have you ever gotten a flu shot? They work for me – help me get sick less often and less severely.

  2. Hi! They pin the fabric to foam core, so no glueing. When I framed one on my own, I followed internet directions and stretched it over foam core then used thread to hold it in place. That probably makes no sense without pictures.

I iron it really well first.

I’m suspicious of flu shots! I don’t know why. Have you ever tried elderberry syrup? I need to make an new batch!

  3. Your stitching is coming along very nicely. I like how you said that you have to remind yourself that cross stitch is as much about the process as well as the end result. I need to remind myself that, too. I need to to remind myself to use the laundry and washing dishes time to relax and do some thinking rather than rushing through. Good idea 😉

I love to hear from you!
