Stitch Therapy

Discovering me … one stitch at a time

Category: work (Page 2 of 6)

This Week

I logged on today determined to write something positive instead of grumbling about stress and sick kids and work trips. This is a challenge since those things have been consuming my life lately.

The good things are…

decent hair days

finally playing Ode to Joy perfectly on the piano

roasted beet salad

a little boy’s fever going down

photographic evidence of Charlie face planting in a chair (sometimes I feel that sleepy in meetings).

Airplane ride this week = stitch time! Stay tuned for updates.

Love Never Fails

Yippee! Weekend! Am I the only one who feels like they are living from weekend to weekend? It seems like I am always thinking “if I can just make it to Friday…”

One more week of craziness, then hopefully things will calm down a bit. Fingers crossed anyway.

Yesterday was Take Your Child to Work Day and I had one little buddy with me. He was very well behaved and enjoyed all of the activities. I could use a new junior assistant every day if it wasn’t for those silly child labor laws.

In stitching news, I picked out a new pattern!

It is called Love Never Fails by Barbara Ana Designs. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I am a sucker for samplers! This one speaks to me. I love the updated colors and the quirky looking people. They are so strange and pale!  And the polka dot birds! And the cats! Squeeee! I can’t wait to get started! If the Universe cooperates, it may be this weekend.

Have you been missing dear sweet Charlie?

Here he is doing some of his favorite things.

Enjoy your weekend, friends!

TGIF!

I made it through a big work event this week so now it feels like the load is a bit lifted for the next few days.

Things to look forward to:
a few days with no traveling
taking a walk
eating dinner with my family
finally having time to pick out a new cross stitch pattern (I have my eyeballs on a few!)
the weekend!

In other news:
Yesterday I saw the most gigantic male and female cardinals outside. I thought they were freaks of nature, but then I told my boss about it and he said that they were just puffed up because it’s mating season.

I read an article about how sneakers are back in style and all the Brooklyn hipsters are running around in jeans and sneaks. How great is that?! Comfortable shoes! In style! Guess what I’m going to wear all weekend? SNEAKERS!

I took some pics around the house. I’ve decided that photography requires way too much patience.

Have a great weekend!

Doe a dear

I am tired and crabby today. My morning latte didn’t even cheer me up.

Work has been demanding. I fantasize about a life at home; baking bread and cross stitching and puttering about.

We’ve been having discussions about the boys’ schooling and that weighs heavily on my mind. Parenting decisions are so HUGE and anxiety ridden!

I feel like I am constantly behind on everything; paperwork, chores, activities. Don’t even get me started on Scouts!

I desperately need a haircut and wardrobe makeover, make that an entire style revamp.

I am thankful for:

{the big things}

health (mine and my 3 loves)

a loving & supportive partner

a job (even if it is especially stressful and unhappy right now)

food to eat, a nice place to live, an active community

{the little things}

an evening with no plans

my boy turns 10 next week (double digits!)

warm knit socks

hash browns

cross stitching, piano playing, & a particularly cute cat

Thoughts this Thursday.

Today’s happy thoughts…

Things at work have settled down a bit.

Littlest got his new retainer. Goodbye crooked little baby smile. 🙁

It’s Thursday.

My boss is the best.

Charlie has been sleeping next to me.

I bought more oranges.

It snowed enough yesterday to feel winter-y nice but not enough to make life difficult.

I’m finally embracing Pinterest.

The border is almost finished!

Around here.

I don’t really have anything to write about today, least of all cross stitching. There’s not been much of that going on.

Things have been pretty uneventful around here. Poor Tom caught the bug. He is such a trooper and doesn’t milk it nearly as much as I do when I’m sick.

There is a big work industry event next week. That means a lot of long days in NYC. I think I got out of the evening events except for 1 night. Phew.

Let’s see. The happy little things lately…

Cleaning out my desk drawers (They needed it! How do I end up with so many random pens and plastic forks from the cafeteria?)

Burning candles and puttering around the house (Current fave – “Sugar Cookie” by Yankee Candle. It tricks people into thinking that I’ve been baking.)

Listening to Biggest practice Mississippi Hotdog on his violin (This will probably get old at some point, but right now I love it!)

A steamy hot bath (Bonus points when it’s chilly out)

Fried Dumplings from the Korean food court (Way better than steamed)

Ron Swanson jokes (No explanation needed)

Home Sweet Home.

Hi! Remember me? It has been so long. I feel like I have a ton to write about, but at the same time, really nothing at all.

Paris was great, work wise. I got tons of inspiration for new projects. As usual, I was jet lagged and homesick. Clearly I was not made for the jet setting lifestyle.

I had fun buying little goodies for my gang; French comic books and cars for the boys, these cool stress reducing coloring books for me and Tom,

and well.. I might have gotten myself a goodie too… (Seriously, how could I resist?!) you know, to help combat my home sickness.

Screen Shot 2014-09-16 at 1.18.41 PM

It was sooooo good to come home though and see my bunch of sillies. I guess I’m just a homebody because I would trade Paris any day for…

Trips to the diner…

It’s sure good to be home.

See you in September.

Here we are in September already. We had a nice visit with my parents and are now trying to get back into the swing of things and into our Fall schedule.

Coal waiting for Tom to get home. Those two are best friends for sure.

Screen Shot 2014-09-03 at 10.09.59 AM

Then boys started school yesterday. It’s amazing how fast the years go by. Here they are yucking it up at the bus stop with their little buddy.

Screen Shot 2014-09-03 at 10.08.51 AM

It’s nice to have the house back to ourselves, but part of me misses having everyone around. My parents and I have had a difficult relationship over the years, but I think age and health have softened us all a bit. Whenever they leave, I always wish that I had been just a bit nicer or spent a little more time with them while they were here.

The night before they left, we had a big dinner at our house. I tried grilling salmon on a cedar plank for the first time and it was delish. The real hit of the party, though, were my Mom’s cha gio. They are my most favorite food ever, hands down.

Biggest organized a bingo game. The competition was fierce and we had a blast. I loved looking around and seeing our families (dysfunctional as they are) laughing and enjoying each other’s company. It does a soul good.

Tomorrow I leave for Paris and I am equal parts excited (It’s Paris!) and dreading (There’s so much to do at home and at work and it’s the first week of school and I’ll miss my family! AAAK!), but I will try to be in the moment and make the best of it.

Have a great week, friends!

J’ai besoin d’un béret.

Hi Peoples.

This week has been rough, but we are mustering through. Last night I FINALLY got a good night’s sleep. Isn’t it amazing how good sleep makes all the difference?

This morning my boss was talking about the Paris trip next week and I was like, “OMG! It’s next week?!” >Gulp< I feel so unprepared. I don’t even have my red beret yet.

Screen Shot 2014-08-27 at 9.18.27 AM

Haha! A cat in a red beret. Did you laugh? Look at his crazy eyes!

Speaking of which, I have been obsessed with getting a cat lately. I’ve always been a cat person, whilst Tom is a dog person and I’ve missed having a cat around the house. I especially like the big fat lazy kind and even went so far as to look on Petfinder the other day. It is totally a bad idea to look on Petfinder unless you’re perfectly sure that you’re ready for a new pet, because it’s hard not to fall in love with every pet that you see. Anyhoo, I talked myself out of it after thinking about litter boxes and shedding fur and having another little creature to worry about, so it probably isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

Last night my Mom taught me to make Bun Rieu, which is a Vietnamese noodle soup. Here’s a picture stolen off the Internet of what it looks like.

Screen Shot 2014-08-27 at 9.37.05 AM

My guys LOVE noodle soups, so this is a good one to add to our repertoire. Biggest rated it #7 on his list of Top 10 Noodle Soups. I think it’s funny that he even has a list of Top 10 Noodle Soups. I think that Tom may have rated it a 3, but I don’t remember the exact number. I was too busy eating.

Ooh la la.

Bonjour! Are you wondering why I’m speaking French? Why… because I’m going to France of course! In 3 weeks! For work!

At first I was excited about it, but then I realized that it would be whirlwind and that Tom couldn’t join me and I was less excited. The last time I went to Paris for work, I only got to see the Eiffel Tower from the car. Boo. I don’t mean to sound thankless though, because Paris is still Paris. Bien sur, mes amies!

I can’t believe that Summer is winding down already. The boys only have 2 more weeks of camp. Then we have a week with my parents visiting. Then school starts. Yikes. I will be Mom to a 2nd and 4th grader! Say what?!

When we were on the cruise, we read aloud from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory every night before bed. Now that we’re home, we have moved on to Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. We’ve only just started, but so far it’s not as good. This seems often to be the case with sequels.

I took no pictures yesterday, so will end this rambly blog post today with this:
