Shopping Adventures!

Hi Blog!

What?! Monday again?!

On Friday, Tom and I went to dinner and a comedy show with some friends. We saw those guys from that old improv TV show “Whose Line is it Anyway?” It was hilarious.

Stephanie and I went shopping on Saturday and I bought this old blanket chest. I love it.

I guess I never finished telling you about our cross stitching adventures in Paris. I looked up some stitching shops to visit before the trip, but we didn’t manage to go to any of them!

One day though, we were out strolling near the hotel and spotted what looked like a fabric store. We stopped in and, lo and behold, it turned out to be a fabric, knitting, and CROSS STITCH store!!! Quelle surprise! They had a whole floor dedicated to cross stitch stuff! In a terrible moment of irony, my phone battery chose that exact time to die. Luckily, Tom was there to snap some photos.

I almost couldn’t focus. There was so much to see!

Evenweave and linen in every color…

They had a ton of pre-finished items just ready to be embellished with some cross stitching. Cute pouches of every shape and size!

And pretty kitchen towels!

There were soft stitchable bath towels in lovely colors…

And a whole wall full of embroidery books!

I had never seen the Rico design books in the US before and promptly fell in love. It was reaaaaallly heard to pick just a few items to buy.

I ended up getting two books, filled with the most gorgeous designs.

So tasteful…

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-2-20-33-pm

And modern…

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-2-21-31-pm

Le sigh…

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-2-23-36-pm

I also bought a pre-finished runner and a tablecloth that was made specifically for stitching some of the designs from the books. I love the pretty texture on the tan one and … swooooon… white swiss dots! Who doesn’t love swiss dots?!!

Can you tell how excited I was to find this store?

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-1-03-53-pm

The rest of the trip, I carried my stitching stuff around Paris in hopes of working on it during any down time. There ended up not being any until our final day at the Luxembourg Gardens.

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-10-08-55-am

There were a lot of people milling about reading and sketching and relaxing. Can you imagine a dreamier place to stitch?

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-10-10-21-am

I worked on last year’s 12 Days of Christmas stitch-a-long because it is small and portable and not too confusing, especially amidst so many distractions.

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-10-36-06-am

Oh… is someone selling baguettes? Oh… do I smell crepes? Oh… should we walk over there for a quick Cafe au Lait? You know, distractions.

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-10-14-34-am

I also stitched on the flight home and managed to complete Days 1-6. Quick aside, can I say what a treat it is to sit on your butt for 7 hours while watching movies (of your choice) and cross stitching while people bring you booze and food? Other people think that flying is a pain, but this tired working mama says “Bring it on!”

screen-shot-2016-10-03-at-10-37-19-am

I think I’m calling this project done for now and try to do a little finish work so that they are ready for Christmas. It only took two years to complete 6 days. I guess I’m not so good at stitch-a-longs.

Anyhoo, that wraps up the Paris recaps. You’re probably tired of reading about the trip by now, so this week I’ll move onto more exciting things like Soccer practice and Chili making. Haha. Until then!

A Trip to the Big City

Hi Blog!

After Christmas, we packed up and went to New York City for a few days. I go there all the time for work, but the boys haven’t been since they were wee babies. It was fun to experience the city through their eyes. Everything is so big and busy and exciting.

We stayed at a hotel right in Times Square, so it was pretty much sensory overload all the time. We did as many touristy New Yorky things as we could manage, including:

Looking at the holiday window displays at Macy’s

Eating SO … MUCH … FOOD, including wood fired pizza in an old church

And Romantic Sushi for Two

Funny aside… Tom and Biggest ordered the “Sushi for Two” at dinner one night and it ended up being a ROMANTIC sushi for two with dramatic lighting effects. Biggest was mortified. We were dying and now crack up and refer to everything as “Romantic (insert food item) for Two” such as,

Romantic milkshake for two

We spent a day in Central Park. It was cold and dreary, but we had fun anyway.

Screen Shot 2016-01-04 at 8.12.29 PM

I wanted to ride the carriage being pulled by the horse wearing purple plumes because he looked the fanciest, but wouldn’t you know it that we didn’t get a single photo of the horse and his fancy plumes?! You’ll just have to imagine him.

Screen Shot 2016-01-04 at 8.13.48 PM

The highlight for Biggest was going into the Ferrari showroom on Park Ave. You can’t tell from his expression in this photo, but he was thrilled and bought a Ferrari model there with his very own money.

We were walking by as they were testing the ball for New Years Eve. OMG 2016! 2015, where did you go?!

Screen Shot 2016-01-04 at 8.18.00 PM

We took the train, so I brought along my project and managed a few stitches. Hanging my head in shame that I only made it to Day 5 of the stitch-a-long…

But how can you concentrate on stitching when you’re sitting next to this funny boy who waved at every single person we passed at every single station?

Next up… The BEACH!

Random thoughts on a rainy day

Hi Blog. How I’ve missed you!

It’s been so busy around here but as I write this, I can’t even remember why. It’s funny how when you’re in the midst of things, they are such a top priority, but just a week later you can’t even remember what they were.

Some random thoughts:

A headstand!

Three things that make me swooooon: Tom, Charlie, & a wall of cross stitch.

“I am pissed off at you for taking my picture while I’m enjoying this box.”

I set up a little office for myself in the corner of the guest room. That’s all I get, a little corner, but I love it.

Animals sleeping in sun patches = so cute!!!

Screen Shot 2015-11-19 at 3.47.19 PM

This little kitten wandered into Tom’s office a few weeks ago and wouldn’t leave. I was (secretly) certain that she’d come home with him one day but they found a home for her! Yay but sighhhh…

I was a chaperone on a field trip this week. The boys were so adorable, but I’m still recovering. (How can a bunch of third graders run in so many different directions at once?)

No stitching whatsoever. Stitch-a-long Christmas 2015 is looking dire, but I guess that means I am really far ahead for Christmas 2016!

YAY! Cross stitching!

Oh boy… Oh boy… What a weekend we had!

On Saturday, I dropped Littlest off at Scouts and ran some errands. A quick stop at Barnes & Noble unearthed this…

What do you do when you’re giddy with excitement to see yourself in a magazine at the bookstore? You hide behind a shelf and take selfies, of course.

Things only got even more exciting later at soccer. Our timid Biggest begrudgingly took a turn playing goalie. He was dreading it as he hates attention and was nervous about playing the position. His coach gave him a little pep talk and we all hoped for the best. Well… he turned out to be an AMAZING goalie, making all sorts of elaborate saves and fancy kicks. The spectators were cheering like crazy! It was all so exciting and he got congratulated the entire way back to the car. My heart felt like it would explode with happiness as he walked a little taller and smiled his shy smile.

Here we are at the Halloween block party later in the weekend. Love this sweet boy.

And finally, some actual stitching news…

I am taking a break from “Love Never Fails” and joining Plum Street Samplers 12 Days of Christmas stitch-a-long! This is my first stitch-a-long and I’m already behind but, oh well, fun! I am going to make individual ornaments instead of the full blown sampler. Anyone want to do it with me?

My goals (just because one need goals):

  1. Use only linen from my stash. Since I’m doing ornaments, I thought it would be fun (and frugal) to use the bits and pieces leftover from other projects. That way they’ll end up with a mismatched look.
  2. Embrace this opportunity to get over my fear of sewing/finishing. 12 ornaments = a lot of practice sewing and finishing creatively, right?! Eep.
  3. Try not to over think things and have fun. HAHAHAHAHA!

So far…

I think this is just the type of project that will give me a kick in the pants to start stitching regularly again. The only downside to stitching regularly?

Getting behind on chores and finding your dog sleeping in dirty laundry. Tradeoffs.
