Stitch Therapy

Discovering me … one stitch at a time

JINX!

I love table linens and have a gajillion plastic bins stuffed full of them. I tended to use them only when people came over because they have to be washed, ironed, I don’t want to ruin them, the boys are messy, blah blah blah. Not anymore! A few weeks ago, I made the executive decision to use and enjoy them daily. I don’t care if they get ruined. I like them and they make me happy. Life is too short to use paper napkins.

The boys were a little confused the first time they saw them at the table. “Mommy, why do we have TOWELS?” I told them that they were napkins and that we were going to be more green by using them. I figured that they’d be more on board with that reason than that “Mommy thinks they’re pretty.”

Yesterday was a cold, rainy, meat and potatoes kind of day. We had meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and broccoli.  I am really proud of myself because I actually planned a menu for this week and cooked a bunch of food on Sunday. I don’t know why I don’t do that more often. It makes things so much easier on a workday to be able to come home and still have a home cooked dinner on the table in half an hour. Small victories.

I didn’t stitch last night and instead cuddled with littlest boy and watched Phineas and Ferb. We played a riveting game of “Jinx” when we kept saying the same thing at the same time. Did you know that you can’t talk after you’ve been jinxed until someone says your name three times? I think that the rules have changed since I was a kid.

Crochet therapy?

We had Scouts last night, so no stitching. 🙁  We worked on our pinewood derby cars for the big race coming up. At first, my guy wanted to paint his car black with white racing stripes. Halfway through, he decided that he’d rather it was painted red, white and blue like an American flag. Needless to say, it is looking rather interesting.

Yesterday I went out at lunch and bought a set of crochet hooks and yarn. I am super excited because a friend is teaching me how to crochet this weekend! I really want to make one of these:

It’s funny how cross stitch has really ignited my interest in trying other needle crafts as well. I <3 cross stitch so!

Wishes and projects.

I had to travel for work yesterday and missed writing in my little blog. Can you believe that Christmas is just a little over a week away? I picked up a few things during my travels and my gift shopping is finally complete. Check!

My family has been very indulgent of my hobby and I was able to get a lot of stitching done last night. I’m feeling confident that this project will be completed before Christmas. The “finishing” part, however, is intimidating. I originally had grand ideas to turn this into a big cushy pillow for our sofa. Now, I’m having second thoughts. It is my first piece, after all, and pillows in our house tend to end up on the floor, or thrown at little brothers, or become beds for little dogs. A pillow would be well-used and well-loved, but not very well-cared-for, unfortunately.

I’m looking forward to starting Projects#2 and #3 and #4!!! The problem is that there are SO MANY gorgeous patterns that I’m having trouble deciding what to embark on next. How do you even choose? I also have a secret wish to try designing my own patterns. I doodled some in my notebook yesterday when I should have been paying attention in a meeting.  Oh… how I love cross stitching! The possibilities are so endless!
