Discovering me … one stitch at a time

Fancy Blog Stuff

Hi Blog!

Do you notice something different at the top there? I have my own domain!

Hopefully you were seamlessly redirected here to the sparkly new stitch-therapy.com but if you use bookmarks or a blog reader, they will need to be updated. WordPress followers and email subscribers are supposed to transfer automatically to the new site (fingers crossed), but it might not be a bad idea to add yourself as a follower to the new blog because I’m not sure how long you’ll get transferred (technologically challenged). Please let me know if you run into any problems. Sorry!

OK, enough housekeeping. How are you? What’s new?

The boys are very excited to be finishing up their last week of school. I can’t believe that another year has come and gone. Good-bye 3rd and 5th grades!

This weekend…

Littlest played his final roller hockey game of the season. He really loved his first hockey experience and is already talking about trying ice hockey. I am happy to be hanging up my skates for the time being.

We discovered an amazing gluten free pizza place. It was so good!

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 6.22.15 PM

I have officially been off of gluten now for over 4 weeks! I can’t say that there has been a radical change in my health or that all of my problems have gone away, but I do feel somewhat better and plan to stick with it longer to see how things go. Giving up gluten has surprisingly not been too hard, but it WAS pretty exciting to eat pizza again.

We enjoyed our first meal outside. We are in that weather sweet spot where it’s no longer rainy (but not too sunny) and it’s warm (but not too hot) and the mosquitos aren’t out yet (but the lightening bugs are).

No stitching to tell you about because this website stuff has been consuming my free time (Ick!). Hopefully we are in the home stretch and stitching will resume PRONTO!

Happy Thursday, Friends!

CrossStitcher! Yay!

Have you all received your Summer 2016 issue of CrossStitcher magazine yet?

Screen Shot 2016-06-03 at 8.36.26 AM.png

Did you happen to flip to page 36 and 37?

Screen Shot 2016-06-06 at 9.31.07 AM.png

Say what?!! That’s me!!! A CrossStitcher Correspondent!

Can you even believe it??? Can you tell that I’m nerding out as I’ve always secretly wanted to be a magazine writer? And seriously, a cross stitch magazine? It’s like all of my dreams mushed into one!

This is especially exciting because I loooove CrossStitcher magazine. If you’re into modern patterns and lots of color, you will love it too. It is published in the UK but I get it here in the US at Barnes & Noble.

And finally… some more progress on this.

This wacky guy just cracks me up.

What are you stitching? What’s new in your world? Happy Monday, Friends!

Around here

Hi Blog.

This weekend was action packed!

Biggest took the train into the city with his friends to visit the natural history museum.

Littlest learned to whittle a branch and carve a bar of soap.

I somehow got suckered into playing in a parents vs. kids soccer game.

Tom somehow got suckered into disassembling bunk beds and redecorating kids’ rooms.

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 11.26.52 AM.png

We entered a chili cook off at the fire station and lost, but ate a lot of chili and got to ride in a fire truck.

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 11.24.31 AM.png

Littlest talked me into making bath bombs with him after he watched a YouTube video and carefully wrote down the recipe. They worked really well!!!

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 11.21.00 AM.png

My blog got mentioned in the March issue of Bustle & Sew magazine!!!

Screen Shot 2016-02-24 at 12.38.46 PM.png

I still get really excited that people actually read my blog.

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 11.42.57 AM.png

And I continued to be the slowest stitcher of all times. Her peachy skin is finally finished!

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 11.22.42 AM.png

But there is still so much left to do.

What were you up to this weekend?

Tuesday Thoughts

I’m enjoying this routine of blogging each day. Maybe it is obvious to you as the reader, but I never really have a plan about what to write. Usually I look through phone pictures from the last few days and a theme emerges. Today there is no such theme, so brace yourself for some randomness.

I am now on Week 2 of Couch to 5K. It’s still fun even though I wasn’t really feeling it yesterday. My knee started hurting so I bought myself a snazzy new knee brace. I felt like an official runner talking about my “knee injury.” Then I got to the gym and the girl on the treadmill next to me was running SOOOOO FAST, like lightning fast! Then I stopped feeling like an official runner and more like the middle aged out-of-shape mom with a knee brace listening to the 80s station on Pandora that I am. Le blergh.

I’m glad to be stitching again. I started the cat, who is currently looking like a zombie cat with creepy eyes. I kinda wish that I had changed him to grey to look like Charlie, but that would have required thinking and planning.

Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 8.42.05 AM.png

One of the things that I most appreciate about my family is that we are always laughing. What a silly bunch! The other day, I asked Tom to fold some laundry. This is how I found him when I walked by later. I guess it’s hard to resist warm laundry from the dryer.

Screen Shot 2016-01-12 at 8.55.36 AM.png

I know that I’m his mom and therefore biased, but isn’t he such a good artist? 9 years old!

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

Down to Earth

This was a pretty eventful week!

First, my kitchen was featured on Rhonda Hetzel’s blog, Down to Earth, as part of her My Favorite Places series. I am such a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Rhonda’s blog and books. She inspires me every day to live a more simple, authentic lifestyle. Love her!

Then, I spent two days with this woman…

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.08.45 AM

Fergie! She was amazingly down to earth, thoughtful, and friendly.

But just so you don’t go thinking that life around here is all about hob-nobbing with royals and famous bloggers, this week I also…

Watched Charlie watching Tom practice guitar:

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.04.47 AM

Such a fuzzy photo, but I love that Charlie is speaking his mind, music critic that he is.

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.55.59 AM

Found a fake pumpkin with fake barf that some practical joker left in the kitchen:

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.25.57 AM

Felt warm and fuzzy catching a kid reading. Tom is clearly exasperated by the dramatic turn of events in Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 11.01.00 AM

Homework! Homework! Homework! What is up with 5th grade math?!!

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 11.02.31 AM

Cross stitched:  I know (snore).

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.13.09 AM

If you think it’s boring reading about the slow progress on this project, imagine how boring it is to be the one stitching it.

Hope that you had a great week! Happy Friday!

Drowning

Hi Blog!

Long time no see. I have been drowning a bit around here lately. There is too much to do and too little time. You all know that feeling, right? Some days I feel so overwhelmed that it seems I can hardly manage. I realize the weeks will pass, and everything that really needs to be done will get done, but BOY is it ever exhausting and terrifying and anxiety ridden and lonely feeling when it is looming right in front of you.

Today I am thankful for:

A very loving, supportive, & patient partner.

This little blog which has turned into a amazing place to let off some steam.

Finally getting my printer to work.

The smell of lemongrass oil.

The azaleas that are just starting to bloom outside our front window.

Happy Tuesday, Friends!

TGIF!

I got some really exciting news this week!

Amy from thedoghairstitchery (best blog name!) told me that she saw my blog mentioned in The World of Cross Stitching magazine! Say WHAT?!!

Screen Shot 2015-02-20 at 8.48.43 AM

I am still surprised when people say that they read my blog, so was beyond tickled to see this. Guess it’s my 15 minutes of cross stitch FAME!

It’s finally Friday and I would like nothing more than to crash on the couch with my stitching, but alas… this will be a weekend full of social obligations. Le sigh. This must be how Kate Middleton feels when she looks at her calendar.

In other news…

We ate this…

And this…

Charlie helped out at homework time (he’s really brainy)…

Screen Shot 2015-02-20 at 10.52.55 AM

My hours of floss winding have continued…

Screen Shot 2015-02-20 at 10.54.24 AM

Piano lessons start on MONDAY! YAY!

Screen Shot 2015-02-20 at 10.59.20 AM

Happy Weekend!

Thumbs Up.

I still have a major case of the anxieties, so I’m going to list a few things that make me feel happy…

a clean kitchen,
finally learning how to use a flat iron,
listening to Tom and Littlest read Dragonbreath together,
Pad Thai and Shrimp Toast,
hilarious friends,
cleaning all the old receipts out of my wallet,
thrift store browsing when no one is rushing me (and finding treasures),
fleece leggings (if you haven’t tried them, you don’t know what you’re missing!),
old Fleetwood Mac CDs,
and my blog (thanks for coming around here and reading my nonsense).

I’m glad that next week is Thanksgiving. Tom’s Mom does the cooking so all we have to do is show up and eat. If I were texting you, I would end that sentence with the giant “thumbs up” emoticon. How did we ever convey emotions before emoticons? That’s a mystery.

My Wednesday Thoughts.

I’m so boring these days that I can barely look at my lame blog.

We leave for Florida NEXT WEEK and I don’t feel prepared. Do we even have shorts and warm weather clothes that fit? NO! Have I even done my taxes yet? NO! Will I get all my work done before then? NO!!! The weeks are flying by.

I plan to bring two stitching projects with me on the trip. I figure that “stitching by the pool” is a reasonable goal while we are there.

How cool is this article? The title is “This is your brain on knitting”, but really, isn’t this how we all feel when we are cross stitching? Ahhhhh… Bliss…

This pic is unrelated but cracks me up.

Shell Shocked.

Last week, I arrived home to a surprise package in the mail from my dear college friend, Melania. We lost touch over the years but reconnected when I started blogging and realized that we have a million and one interests in common. How great is that?! Blogging is magical!

This is what I found inside the package.

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 11.32.29 AM

Squeeeeeee!!!! They are so perfect, and the BEST part is that Melania and her Mom FOUND all of these shells. They are hard core shell seekers and I am so honored that they shared these gems with me.

These pictures really don’t do them justice. I need to break out my good camera on a sunny day and take some really good photos of them.

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 11.31.51 AM

I love them!

And if that wasn’t enough, she sent a hand-stitched card to go with it. HOW CUTE! Birds & Bees, get it?!

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 11.32.43 AM

I’m in cross stitch/shell happiness/friendsareamazing heaven! Thank you, Melania! xoxo!
